چکیده

A biometric authentication system operates by acquiring bio-metric data from a user and comparing it against the template data stored in a database in order to determine the identity of an individual. Among all the biometric techniques fingerprint-based identification is the oldest method and is the most popular approach having successfully used in numerous applications. Everyone is known to have unique, immutable fingerprints. The uniqueness of a fingerprint can be determined by the pattern of ridges, by minutiae points and as well as by reference points. In this research study two most widely used algorithms namely improved fingercode for filterbank based fingerprint matching algorithm and minutia based algorithm are discussed for identification of fingerprints and their performance was evaluated in terms of execution time taken by each algorithm for identification, storage and matching. The experimental results obtained from the study shows that the improved fingercode for filterbank based fingerprint matching algorithm has in general a better performance than minutia based matching algorithm in terms of above mentioned parameters. Keywords-Biometric, fingerprint identification, feature extraction, minutiae points, reference point, improved fingercode for filterbank based fingerprint matching algorithm, minutia based matching algorithm.

A novel image alignment and a fast efficient localized euclidean distance minutia matching algorithm for fingerprint recognition system

A fingerprint recognition system involves several steps. In such recognition systems, the matching of unequal number of minutia features is the most important and challenging step in fingerprint based bio-metrics recognition systems. In this paper, we used clustering based fingerprint image rotation algorithm, to improve the performance of the fingerprint recognition system and proposed a Local...

Enhancement of an Automatic Fingerprint Identification System Using a Genetic Algorithm and Genetic Programming

This paper presents the use of a genetic algorithm and genetic programming for the enhancement of an automatic fingerprint identification system (AFIS). The recognition engine within the original system functions by transforming the input fingerprint into a feature vector or fingercode using a Gabor filter bank and attempting to create the best match between the input fingercode and the databas...

Fingerprint Identification Using SIFT-Based Minutia Descriptors and Improved All Descriptor-Pair Matching

The performance of conventional minutiae-based fingerprint authentication algorithms degrades significantly when dealing with low quality fingerprints with lots of cuts or scratches. A similar degradation of the minutiae-based algorithms is observed when small overlapping areas appear because of the quite narrow width of the sensors. Based on the detection of minutiae, Scale Invariant Feature T...

A Novel Fingerprint Matching Method Combining Geometric and Texture Features

In this paper, we proposed a new fingerprint matching algorithm based on local geometric feature of fingerprint minutia and texture feature for each minutia. To describe the geometric feature of fingerprint minutia, we build a bi-minutia based bar model and get the geometric relationship between the bar and ridges of two candidate minutia; to demonstrate the texture feature, we creatively adopt...
